Le Concours d’Appareils Militaires de Reims in 1911 established the design by Louis Breguet, made in 1910 as one of the most successful aircrafts at the time. This type was to remain the significant profile for the next two decades.
A tractor biplane with directional controls at the tail. An engine up front and two sets of wings. The tail unit is attached to the fuselage with a universal joint that allows up/down and left/right movement from the rudder bar and tye control wheel. The whole unit is balanced with coilsprings at the support wires.
The wings have adjustable incidence with control
cranks at the individual wing roots. The success at Reims awarded Louis Breguet with considerable number of orders and the three-seater developed that year was to become on of the French Army observation airplanes.
One aircraft was sold to Sweden, there becoming
the first military biplane. A restoration using many original parts was presented to the Swedish Airforce Museum in 1989 where it resides now. Our model is based on this aircraft. |
