In 1933 the Japanese Imperial Navy had designed a standard intermediate trainer type 93, to be manufactured by several major aircraft manufacturers in Japan. The Army had at about the same time contracted a very similar trainer, Type 95, for their purpose. The Japanese Imperial Navy version was basically a landplane but one version, 5KY2, was equipped with two floats and used for seaplane bases.
The powerplant is a Hitachi Amakaze11, 300 hp 9 cylinder aircooled radial.
Over the years 5589 units were built of both types by various manufacturers. There is but one survivor, on display in the Museum Abri Satriamandala, Djakarta.
A non flying replica has been recently built by Kenji Majima in Nara, for museum display. Pictures in the manual show parts of this aircraft during construction. |
