In April 1914 the German aircraft manufacturer Albatros Flugzeugweke located in Berlin, established a manufacturing company in Wien-Stadlau in Austria. This company became the second largest supplier of aircraft to the Austro-Hungarian Army and Navy. In January 1917 this company changed ownwership and was renamed Phönix Flugzeugwerke AG.
In March 1918 the D-I was officially replaced by the D-III. The D-III was also delivered to the Navy and was used for the coastal defence in the Adriatic. The D-III was ordered in quantity but arrived to late to reach the battle front.
After the Armistice, 20 Phönix D-III were sold and delivered to Sweden where they served as front line fighter for the Army Aircorps. When in 1926, the Swedish Airforce was founded, this fighter was designated J-1, ”Jaktflygplan” (pursuit aircraft) type 1 and served on for several more years. |

The airplane is packed in a strong 3-ply, custom made carton. The individual parts are packed in sealed plastic bags and then wrapped in bubble plastic to ensure safe transport. |
