On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the 1903 Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight with a pilot aboard. It flew forward without losing speed and landed at a point as high as that from which it started.
The original aircraft was partly destroyed in a flood in Dayton, Ohio. The Wright brothers rebuilt it for display in London, using some original parts. This aircraft is now on display in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Washington DC., U.S.A. Before this aircraft was returned to U.S.A..in 1948, an exact copy was built in England and is now on display in the Science Museum in London.
Our model is a close replica in 1/5th scale, based on the British Science Museum copy. Available in RNF only. |
