Germany at the beginning of WW1 was emotionally still a divided country. The southern part, Bavaria, had to secure what they could on their own with regard to aircraft. Pfalz Flugzeygwerke in Steyer, close to the French border, had god relations with the French manufacturer Morane Saulnier S.A. and aquired some of their designs for manufacturing under licence.
The parasol winged version was ideal for observation since the wing did not obstruct the downward view. The aircraft could be made to carry 2 persons, the pilot and the observer depending on what engine was fitted. The French le Rhone rotary and the Gnome Monosoupape were likely choises and later an engine manufactured by the German company Oberursel.
Available in ARF, ARC and RNF. |
