The "Jenny" actually originated in England, where B.D. Thomas of the Sopwith Company drew up a design known as the Type J to a Curtiss specification.
This was later blended in America, with the Curtiss's own Type N, the resultant prototype being known as the JN. First production model was the JN-2, the small number produced including 10 for the U.S. Army.
